Politics in practice

There is another, voluntary subject for political education:

Duterte's war against drugs on the Philippines has already cost 20'000 lives – what is that about? Trump is tightening sanctions against Iran – why? Saudi-Arabia has a journalist murdered in Turkey – what consequences are there? Did the RUAG deliver weapons to countries which Swiss companies are not allowed to export to?

Are you interested in questions like these and would like to know more about these or similar topics? International conflicts and contemporary issues for which there is rarely time in regular class will be analysed and discussed here in German and/or English.

Depending on the availability of sources we'll read newspaper articles, listen to podcasts, watch news and try to understand Swiss politics and society as well as the world outside of Switzerland. Our goal is to establish factual knowledge on which the students can form their own opinion.

The exact program will be defined together with the participants. Participation is open to all high school classes. This voluntary subject will be held for the first time August-December 2019 (on Wednesdays 16:10-17:45).
