Educational philosophy of the Diploma Programme

The new dual diploma programme, which combines the IB Diploma and the cantonal Matura, optimizes GM students’ access to foreign universities. The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme has an excellent reputation throughout the world and most universities acknowledge and trust its grading system. The basic philosophy of the IB Diploma Programme corresponds with that of the Gymnasium am Münsterplatz and the GM mission statement is nearly identical to the IB learner profile (see fig.1).
Students should consider choosing the IB at the GM if they are interested in an international perspective, if they are ready to take on a new challenge, if they are able to work independently and with discipline and if they would like to further improve their organizational skills. The contents and goals of the curriculum are summarized in the learner profile of the IBO. Participation in the IB curriculum requires a good work ethic. Although students may not spend much more time at school, they will be required to do more independent and project work.
All of these advantages will enable students to perform at a higher level at university, especially at international universities with an increased focus on an English-language curriculum.
